Quenneville Visits WESPYs

Local hockey legend and Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach, Joel Quenneville was the highlight of the night at the 12th annual Windsor Essex Sports Persons of the Year awards.

During a question and answer period with organizer Dominic Papa, Quenneville spoke about developing his team and how he has evolved as a coach over the years.

"I think one thing as a coach you want to make sure you treat every body the same way, you want to be yourself, you want to be direct and you want the lines of communication to be wide open with the guys," says Quenneville.

The Coach of the Year award has been renamed in Quenneville's honour. The first recipient of the newly named award is Brett Lumley head coach of the Windsor Lancers Track & Field team.

"The thing I'm most famous for is believe in the process. All the work is done, believe in the process, believe in what we've done in practice and that will bring results," says Lumley.

The Male Athlete of the Year is Linonel Sanders a tri-athlete and iron man competitor. The Female Athlete of the Year is Krystin Lawrence a hockey and soccer player with the Windsor Lancers.
