The Greater Essex County District School Board will be retaining a security consultant after students were able to access confidential personal information of staff members.
The board says the breach was accidental and not malicious in nature. It's believed a group of three students saw the data and then reported it to a staff member.
The board reported the data exposure to the OPP as per protocol and the problem has been addressed. All personal data is now secure. The security consultant will conduct a review of the security of the information technology systems.
The board’s investigation has concluded that the information was only viewable on board computers within school board locations. Access was not possible through the internet, on personal devices or on computers outside GECDSB facilities.
The breach involved information of employees of the board only, and did not include family or student information.
