Students Inspired To Affect Change

Around 1,200 students from the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board were challenged today to make positive change in their communities.

Grade 7 and 8 students gathered at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts to hear motivational speakers like Spencer West. West, who lost his legs during childhood, encourages action in students by using himself as an example of how to overcome what seems impossible.

"Regardless of who we are or where we come from we all have the ability to give back in some way. It just looks different for each person, but I hope they realize that they have that same power to do that," says West.

West is part of the WE organization that travels around the world to help in developing countries. To raise money for fresh water in some of these communities West climbed Mount Kilimanjaro on his hands and in his wheelchair. He uses this story as inspiration for students to redefine what they think is possible.
