Flood Concerns Over Proposed Subdivision

The City of Windsor will study drainage and sewer capacity before moving forward with a new subdivision in East Windsor.

The 19-lot subdivision will be on city owned property near Mountbatten Cres. and Martinique Ave.

"Before we even begin approving that sub-division, we want to make sure that there's not going to be any negative impact in terms of flooding on the sanitary and storm sewer system," says Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk.

The planning committee is recommending moving forward with a resident approved design that will see Mountbatten turned into a "U" shaped street with access to Riverside Dr. at both ends.

"I think it will be safer for everyone and we won't have a lot of non-residential people coming down the street," says resident Glenn Stannard.

Administration was concerned the two access points to Riverside Dr. could create more conflict points for turning vehicles and across the Ganatchio Trail.

"I think the residents had their concerns heard loud and clear today, and I think the planning committee responded. To a large degree the ball is going to be in council's court now," says Kusmierczyk.

The studies will be presented at another planning committee meeting before the subdivision can be approved by council.
