Windsor Police Solve Decade-Old Robbery

A 27-year-old Windsor man is facing a break and enter charge, ten years after a home robbery in the city's east end.

Back in January of 2007, police responded to a break-in where a back door was broken and some jewelry and electronics were stolen.

DNA was recovered at the scene, and eventually put into the DNA databank of unsolved crimes.

Police say a man was then arrested for a separate crime, sometime since 2007, and a DNA sample was taken for the known offender DNA database.

Earlier this month, police officials received confirmation from the Centre of Forensic Sciences regarding a DNA hit, linking the man to the original 2007 break and enter.

Due to the fact that the accused was only 17 at the time of the alleged offence, his name cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
