Second Swab Event For Windsor Baby

After an outpouring of support from the community, a second swab event has been scheduled to help find five-month-old Madalayna Ducharme a stem cell donor.

Madalayna was diagnosed with malignant infantile osteopetrosis earlier this month, and is in need of a transplant to cure the bone marrow disease. Finding a match is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Madalayna's mom, Tamara Ducharme says the outpouring of support is giving the family hope during this scary time.

"It's really, it's truly unbelievable, I posted to get some people out there to register, and I said 'please share' thinking maybe I would get 100 or 200 shares," says Ducharme. Her original Facebook post asking for support has been shared over 5,000 times. "It's amazing. I am so full of love for all these people who are helping me. It's just amazing."

The first event is on Thursday at St. Clair College's main campus in Windsor between 9:30am-3:30pm. The second event is now scheduled for Saturday at the Canadian Blood Services office on Grand Marais Blvd. from 9am-2pm.

If you cannot make either date but are still interested in being on the donor registry you can request Canadian Blood Services to send you a kit online.
