Many City of Windsor residents are still waiting for approval from the flood mitigation program after getting water in their basements in late September.
Since the storm, 839 applications have been received by the City of Windsor, and only 310 initial inspections have been completed as of January 10. Currently, it is estimated it takes a homeowner 160-170 days to complete the work from the date the city received the application.
The City of Windsor engineering department is requesting additional funds to hire three additional temporary positions to increase the intake into the program.
In total, $2.5-million in funding is being recommended in the 2017 capital budget for the downspout disconnection program, flooding abatement measures, small sewer repair, and smoke and dye testing. The department is also recommending bringing $750,000 forward to the 2018 capital budget for the completion of the Sanitary and Storm Sewer Master Plan.
In 2016, the budget was overspent by $250,000 because of overtime and extra garbage pickup costs.
In total, 1,600 tonnes of flood damaged materials were collected as part of the drop off and curbside collection service.
All recommendations will be discussed as part of budget deliberations starting Monday afternoon.
