Spitfires Double Up Niagara 2-1

Two first period goals would be all the Windsor Spitfires needed to beat the Niagara IceDogs Saturday night at the WFCU Centre.

With the 2-1 victory, the Spitfires pulled to within a win of the OHL West Division-leading Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, who lost Saturday afternoon to Sarnia.  Windsor has 65 points.

Sean Day and Logan Brown were the goal scorers for Windsor, each scoring their 12th goal of the season in the contest.  Day`s would be scored just 93 seconds into the opening period, with Jalen Chatfield and Julius Nattinen on assists.  Brown`s score came at 7:29 in the period.  Graham Knott and Jeremy Bracco picked up assists on that goal.

Niagara pulled within one at 1:32 in the second period, but it was all the scoring that would happen in the game.  Ondrej Machala got his fifth goal of the year, with assists by Matthew Philip and Kirill Maksimov.

The power play did not work at all for either team.  Windsor had six extra-man advantages while Niagara had seven.  The Spits and Dogs had an equal 34 shots each.

The Spitfires welcome the Guelph Storm to the WFCU Centre Sunday afternoon.
