Speaking at the North American International Auto Show, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne says the company will "run with it as long as it can."
The company is expected to phase out the Caravan, but a date for its demise has not been set. Last July, the company announced it would extend production at least until July 2019.
Although sales dipped in 2016, the Caravan and Town & Country still commanded a significant share of the Canadian and U.S. minivan market. In November, the company reported a 7% dip in sales from the same month in 2015.
The Pacifica replaced the Town & Country.
Marchionne says he's pleased with the sales of the Caravan, but the price difference between it and the new Chrysler Pacifica present a challenge. The caravan offers young families with a more economical option.
Earlier Monday, the 2017 Pacifica won the North American Utility Vehicle of the Year award becoming just the second minivan in the award's 24-year history to come away with the honour.
Both models are built at the Windsor Assembly Plant which employs 6,000 workers.
