Marriage Business Is Booming At LaSalle Town Hall

LaSalle Mayor Ken Antaya admits he is surprised there have been 103 marriage licenses issued by the town over the past year.

LaSalle just started issuing them last January.

In July, the town's clerk and deputy clerk began performing wedding ceremonies, and there have been 20 so far.

Antaya says some of the couples are from out of town too.

"And you know newlyweds, when they come in and take a look at our community, they may want to stay," says Antaya.

While civil ceremonies are less ornate than a wedding in a church, Antaya says the town has had a lot of positive feedback.

"They're actually coming back and taking pictures in front of our atrium; you know the living wall that we have there. It's a nice setting," he says. "The comments that I have heard from people that have witnessed them conducting the ceremony, they've said that it's very thoughtful, and very nice, and very caring to the couple."

He believes the town is on to something good and there will be even more licenses issued and ceremonies performed in 2017.
