Spits Trade Sanvido

The Windsor Spitfires have traded team captain Patrick Sanvido to the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for a pair of draft picks.

The 20-year-old defenceman has been a captain for three years and has spent his entire OHL career with the Windsor Spitfires.

“This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do as GM,” says General Manager Warren Rychel in a news release. “Sandy has been a heart-and-soul player for us for so long. He's an outstanding kid that did so much in the community. This is tough. But, obviously, having four overage players, we had to make a move. He'll get to reunite with [Wolves head coach] Dave Matsos, who really wanted him.”

In the OHL, teams cannot have more than three overage players passed January.

The Spits will receive Sudbury's 14th round pick in 2017 and the sixth round pick in 2018.

Sanvido has played 250 regular season games and nine playoff games with the Spitfires since the 2012-2013 season.
