The GSS held a referendum vote to add a $125 annual fee on all tuition to built the Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre.
Last December all student associations voted on a similar referendum. The GSS was the only group that voted down the project and so the project did not move forward.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
