Masse Blasts Feds For Windsor Hum Inaction

Windsor West MP Brian Masse is blasting the Trudeau government for missing an opportunity to do something about the Windsor Hum.

Masse says with the administration of President-elect Donald Trump preparing to move into the White House, Ottawa has missed a golden opportunity.

"Issues like this would be the issues that actually get moved on the final parts of a presidency -- ones that can actually get some political will for people to clean up the file before they leave," he says accusing the federal government of revelling in a "bro-mance" with the Obama administration instead of raising the issue with high-level officials.

Masse says it would have been a chance for Ottawa to address the issue without a treaty on cross-border noise and low-level vibration.

"It's really frustrating as a member of parliament trying to deal with this in the sense that our minister of foreign affairs essentially chose to have the party and the other things that were going on in Washington DC, not raising this issue."

He says it is not even like it's been a particularly busy session on Parliament Hill saying only a handful of bills have been passed while the prime minister travels abroad.

"What I'll be working on is reinforcing the issue with some of the groups and organizations that I can work with on the environmental side, official side, to try to get something done on it," says Masse. "I hasn't been forgotten by me."

Residents in west Windsor and LaSalle have complained for years about low-level vibration rattling windows and keeping them awake at night. Many say the constant bombardment has negatively affected their health.

A Facebook page, that tracks the level of noise and where it is heard, has 1,523 members.
