LaSalle Residents Could Pay 4.3% More

The Town of LaSalle has released its proposed budget for 2017, and it calls for an increase in the residential property tax rate.

Added in an increase in the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation assessments for most LaSalle homes, the increase works out to 4.3%. That's the 3.83% MPAC increase, plus another 0.46% in the municipal levy.

Administration's recommending town council approve another $791,700 in spending to maintain the current level of service. The jump is blamed on contractual or mandatory inflationary increases.

Within the budget, $1.2-million for several projects, the biggest chunk of which is for a multi-year plan to replace infrastructure. That accounts for $600,000 in capital funding. Other spending includes $100,000 for a fire department substation and $60,000 to operate a new splash pad.

LaSalle town council still has to approve the budget, and that decision is expected in December.

Residents can take a look at the draft budget for themselves by picking up a copy at the LaSalle Civic Centre and going online to the town's website.
