It cost two returning Canadians $3,317 for undervaluing their goods to border authorities — which included a Woolly Mammoth tusk.
The Canadian Border Services Agency reports on September 20, two Canadians crossing at the Ambassador Bridge declared $760 in antiquities. However, authorities pried a little further and found the Woolly Mammoth tusk along with other items worth a total of $6,100.
There were no restrictions on bringing the items into Canada, but the penalty was given because the traveller was required to declare proper value.
The $3,317 penalty was paid and the tusk and other antiquities were released. There were no charges.
Border authorities say if the items had been properly declared, the import cost would've been $98.
Last month also saw authorities seize about $100,000 in jewelry.

On September 9, an American woman crossing the Ambassador Bridge was referred to second inspection where authorities report finding nearly $100,000 worth of gold jewelry in a purse.
The jewelry is reportedly from Dubai.
Authorities report the woman was allowed to go on into Canada while the jewelry was seized.
The woman has since been charged with Customs Act offences of non-report, making false statements, and attempting to evade the payment of taxes. An arrest warrant has been issued, but the woman hasn't yet been caught.
