Coats for Kids Still Needs Donations

The 2016 "Coats for Kids" campaign is experiencing a shortage of coats and is reaching out to the community for help.

The campaign started on September 1, and their goal for the campaign is to collect 6,000 coats by October 31.

"To date, we have collected approximately 3,000 coats throughout Windsor and Essex County, so we've got two weeks left to collect 3,000 more coats," says June Muir, the executive director at the Unemployed Help Centre.

Although "Coats for Kids" is experiencing difficulty reaching their goal, they started out strong. Some residents in Windsor-Essex County donated before the campaign even started.

"We had some coats before September, so we were very fortunate," says  Muir, who adds that she's confident the community will "step up to the plate, get those coats out of their closet and donate to the program" in order to help them reach their goal.

"Coats for Kids" is accepting new and gently used children, and adult coats. Children's coats sizes 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 are in the highest demand. They are planning to start distribution of the coats on Saturday, November 12.

Residents are asked to bring their coats to local dry cleaners and other participating locations to donate them to the campaign.
