Health Unit Finds Mosquito Associated With Zika

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is stressing the Zika virus hasn't made its way to the area, after officials found the species of mosquito known to transmit the virus in a local mosquito trap.

The Aedes albopictus — also known as the Asian tiger mosquito — was discovered in a trap during routine monitoring for West Nile virus.

All of the Aedes albopictus mosquitos tested negative for the Zika virus.

The health unit is set to have a news conference on Thursday at 10am to address the finding.  Public Health Ontario will be on hand.

Requests for comment have been declined in the meantime.
