After hearing from residents who have been living in their homes for years and still don't have a paved road to drive on, Lakeshore's mayor to give road work a greater priority in the next budget.
"We have to take a longer look at increasing our roads program by putting more money in there," says Tom Bain. "We have a ten-year program, but it's not going to meet the needs as such."
Some residents living on waterfront property complain they're paying a premium in taxes and have a gravel road to show for it. Others, living in rural areas, complain their roads aren't even in the town's ten-year forecast.
"Right now we're not making a lot of progress, unfortunately," Bain says.
He doesn't want to say rapid growth is a problem but says the town just can't keep up at the current pace of spending.
"I don't think it's growing too fast," Bain says. "It's great to see the last two or three years the number of building permits has increased substantially, and I think that's what we want."
Three new subdivisions are expected to go up in Lakeshore soon. Council approved two of them Tuesday night.
Previously, town council had voted to build a roundabout on County Rd. 22 in Belle River to handle the increase in traffic.
