Excitement Building for FINA Championship

Excitement is building for the FINA 25m World Swimming Championships in December with 172 countries confirmed in attendance.

It's been confirmed Canadian Olympic medalists Kylie Masse and Penny Oleksiak will be in attendance for the competition.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says this will be the biggest competition that Windsor has hosted to date.

"The team is working very well together in terms of accommodations , in terms of transportation, in terms of logistics, you can't underestimate the nature of this event and the efforts that go into making this event happen," says Dilkens.

Nearly 1600 athletes and staff have already confirmed attendance with over a month and half left to register for the event.

"It's about the athletes telling their stories, there nothing more we want here in Windsor to see our athletes win gold here in the pool at home," says Aquatics Canada President Lisa Schott.

The organizing committee is still looking for about 50 volunteers to help with the event. So far nearly 600 volunteers have registered.

The championships will be held December 6-11 2016 at the WFCU Centre where a 25 meter temporary pool will be constructed in the main bowl.

In support of local medalist Kylie Masse tickets are available to Windsor-Essex residents at a 20% discount by using the promo code 'Windsorworlds' on www.finawindsor2016.com
