The City of Windsor is encouraging residents to take part in a country wide documentary about what it means to be a Canadian on September 10, 2016.
The documentary will air on CTV as part of Canada's 150th anniversary. Its goal is to share what it was like to be a Canadian.
The project asks Canadians to film a part of their day and submit it to become a part of the overall story. The project's official website says you should ask yourself what do you love, what do you fear, what do you hope for and what does Canada mean to you when deciding what to film.
“We are our stories,” says Mayor Drew Dilkens in a news release. “The Canada In A Day project gives all of us the opportunity to share our thoughts, hopes, dreams and fears in our own words. This is a chance to have our voices become part of the story of one single day in our great nation, and a perfect time to visit a City park, the waterfront, the nature trails or your favourite amenity for some inspiration for your video.”
The deadline to submit the video footage is October 10, 2016 but the footage should be filmed on September 10, 2016.
Director Trish Dolman out of Vancouver will review all the submissions and tell the story of Canada in a Day.
“Canada In A Day presents an incredible opportunity for Canadians to talk to each other – in a very real way – about who we are, where we are as a nation, and where we want to go. I am honoured to be the filmmaker who will be presenting these compelling stories of ordinary and extraordinary moments in the lives of Canadians and see this as a valuable time capsule for generations to come,” says Trish Dolman on the official website.
The idea is based on a documentary called Life in a Day that was shot in 2010 and received 80,000 submissions from people around the world. Since then countries like Britain, Italy, Germany and India have created similar films and received a huge response.
