MP for Windsor West Brian Masse is demanding answers for federal employees in Windsor who have been receiving incorrect payment since the government introduced a new payroll system.
Since the Phoenix system was introduced earlier this year many employees, locally and across the country, have gone without pay or with the incorrect pay. There were over 80,000 of Canada's nearly 300,000 federal public servants who encountered problems.
"I want to see this worked on," says Masse. "It should be, really right now, all hands on deck with regards to the minister taking the bull by the horns and making sure this is completed and that there will be a full path to restitution."
The union representing the employees locally says some of its members have fallen on hard times because of the situation. They have maxed out credit cards and lines of credit and are having trouble keeping up with bills.
"These same members, the ones that are here today, some of whom were not remunerated , many of whom are still experiencing pay issues to date they all reported to work every day. Every morning they sat at their desks and worked diligently to provide quality services to Canadian citizens," says Tina Angelini, president of CEIU Local 576.
