Swimming Not Recommended At Five Beaches

The Windsor and Essex County Health Unit does not recommend swimming at five local beaches this weekend.

High levels of bacteria were found at Cedar Island Beach, Point Pelee West Beach, Colchester Beach, Sandpoint Beach and West Belle River Beach. The beaches remain opened but the health unit warns the bacteria levels may be unsafe.

The health unit conducts beach water quality monitoring at ten public beaches every Wednesday from June to September.

Officials warn water quality can change from day to day and they do not recommend swimming if there was recent heavy rainfall, if the water is cloudy or if you are unable to see your feet in the water.
