Pilot Project To Prevent Illegal Dumping

A Windsor City Councillor is hoping to implement a pilot project to reduce illegal dumping in the city.

Ward 7 Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk would like hold a Big Bin Day to give residents an opportunity to dispose of large furniture pieces without having to pay at the dump.

Charitable organizations like GoodWill Industries, Habitat for Humanity and St. Vincent de Paul would also be part of the event to save items that still have a few good years on them.

"It's going to help residents acquire furniture that need it, I think those organizations can also help to bring some of the costs down of putting this together. It also helps to keep some of the bulk items from our alleys, and rivers and parks," says Kusmierczyk.

A one day event, held at a single location in the city would cost upwards of $15,000. City Council will discuss the initiative at Monday night's council meeting.
