Mothers Against Drunk Driving have dedicated a bench in downtown Windsor to victims of impaired driving.
Margaret Collins lost her daughter, Sarah, at the age of 19, when she was struck by an impaired driver driving on Hwy. 77 north of Leamington 13 years ago.
“We miss her, she was an integral part of our family, the whole lot; there’s always a seat empty at the table. It doesn’t get easier,” says Collins.
She hopes the bench helps to prevent this loss for another family.
MADD Spokesperson Chaouki Hamka says it will also be a space for families to come and reflect.
“It will help them through the grieving process. They can come to it and say a prayer or reflect on how they feel. It’s all for them,” says Hamka.
Hamka hopes this will be the first of many memorial benches in the Windsor-Essex area.
