Dropping Residential Development Fees For Poor Neighbourhoods

The City of Windsor is eliminating development charges for residential development in the city's vulnerable area from Sandwich Town to around Pillette Rd. southbound to Tecumseh Rd.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says they are eliminating the charges to increase infill in the city's core.

"We're looking to create more density and certainly get more houses, get more people into those areas because the more people you get into certain areas the more kids that will go to school, the more they will shop in their local area and there will be demand for commercial space," says Dilkens.

The areas that will have the development charges eliminated were determined by the Windsor Neighbourhood Market Value Analysis. The study was completed to determine the challenges and economic health of real estate on a neighbourhood level.

The elimination of the fees will stay in place for at least another four years.
