Police Investigating Potential Hate Crime

Windsor police are investigating a mischief call as a hate crime.

Police report attending a home in the 2300-block of Longfellow Ave. in Windsor on Monday to respond to a call.

A vehicle parked in the driveway of the home had language offensive to Arabic speaking people carved into the paint. Police say the vehicle was damaged by scratches to both the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

Constable Andrew Drouillard with the Windsor Police Service says investigating the matter as a hate related crime means more resources to solve the case compared to a typical mischief call.

"We've done a thorough canvass in the area," says Drouillard, stressing the importance of getting public tips in investigating the incident. "Even if they've heard third-hand information, we want to hear from them as well."

The complainant in the case says the damage was done sometime between 2am and 10am on Canada Day.

Police continue to investigate and are looking for anyone with information on the case to call the Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700 x4305, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or to contact authorities online at catchcrooks.com or through Facebook.
