Ground is broken on Windsor's new $43-million city hall project.
The five-storey facility is going up right next to the old one, and is expected to be open by May of 2018. That's when demolition of the current building, which engineers say is full of asbestos, will begin.
The first two floors of the new city hall will be for public access, including a new council chambers, which will all be connected by an atrium at the front of the building.
The property which the current city hall occupies will eventually be turned into the new city hall square.
Project engineers say a canopy reaching from the east side of the new facility to 400 City Hall Square, will truly give the space that "campus" look the city is hoping to achieve.
