Border Officials Seized Banned Pit Bull

Officials with the Canada Border Services Agency have seized a pit bull at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

A vehicle carrying three Michigan residents was in secondary inspection April 1, where officials found the dog in the hatchback.

The contract of sale valued the dog at $4,000 US and described the dog as a purebred. Pit bulls are prohibited in Ontario.

That's why the Michigan residents told inspectors they were warned by the breeder not to declare the dog at the border.

They were ordered to pay over $1,000 and sent on their way to the U.S.

At the Ambassador Bridge the same day, officials at the Ambassador Bridge found a loaded handgun with a 14-round magazine in a duffle bag. They seized the gun and arrested the traveller who paid a $1,500 fine before they were allowed into Canada.

Border officials at the bridge also seized two handguns, a pellet gun, a pair of brass knuckles, a Taser and marijuana in one vehicle that made a wrong turn, and a loaded revolver along with loose hollow point rounds in another in April.
