The City of Windsor, Enwin and the Windsor Utilities Commission is breaking ground on a new $30-million project to help protect Windsor's water supply.
"It will also accommodate additional system capacity for future growth wether it's here in Windsor, LaSalle or Tecumseh," says Enwin Vice President of Asset Management John Wladarski.
The project includes three phases, the construction of a new water reservoir, pipes to connect the new reservoir to the water treatment plant and maintenance of the existing reservoir. The new reservoir will be located where the existing George Ave. park is located. Upon completion a parkette will be installed at the same location.
"In the event that we can't draw water from the Detroit River, in other words we can't treat water, we'll have enough storage on site and with all the other storage facilities that we own and operate, to supply the city of Windsor for about 24-30 hours," says Wladarski.
The project will take 18-24 months to complete, the bulk of the project will not get underway until January 2017.
