"Like A Little Bit Of Sugar", Strawberry Fest Underway

If you're going to the LaSalle Strawberry Festival this weekend, be sure to download its new app.

Organizers say you can download it for free by texting the word "strawberry" or "lasallestrawberryfestival" to 226-773-1974.

On it, you'll find the schedule, any changes that have been made and a list of all the vendors.

The parade down Front Rd. starts at 10am Saturday at the Turkey Creek Bridge near Reaume Rd. and ends at Sacred Heart Dr.

Town councillor and festival co-chair, Sue Desjarlais says the event typically attracts between 15,000 and 20,000 over the course of the weekend, but she'd like to see attendance top 25,000 this year.

Of course, that may depend on the weather.

"We are going to have amazing weather because rain is a four letter word in our vocabulary."

As for what makes the festival, strawberries, Desjarlais says they're fresh and local.

"From Raymont's Berries in Cottam and they are excellent," she says. "Like eating a little bit of sugar every time you pop one in your mouth."

Friday night, Desjarlais says there're fireworks at dusk and the band Gob headlines on the stage. Former Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page plays Saturday night and its Family Day on Sunday.
