Mission Launched Capital Campaign

The Downtown Mission is launching a capital campaign to raise money for its new building on Ouellette Ave.

The Wellness Centre at 875 Ouellette will house a do-good restaurant, a food bank and an overnight sanctuary for the homeless in the community.

Downtown Mission CEO Ron Dunn says the new centre will have a major impact on the people who depend on their services.

"A centre that's going to help people back to wholeness, whatever that means for them. There's a lot of great programs in the community but some of them are built around certain parameters and ours is going to be fluid," says Dunn.

The mission needs to raise $750,000 to renovate and furnish the new facility. Several community leaders from Ground Effects, Rock Developments and the Scott Family Foundation have committed to match up to $150,000 of every community donation. The matching campaign runs until July 31, 2016.

If the campaign goes well the Downtown Mission hopes to have the new building up and running by the end of September.
