Girl Impaled By Golf Club 'Really Struggling'

A 14-year-old Windsor girl impaled by a golf club has been moved out of the critical care unit.

Madison Arseneault's lawyer tells BlackburnNews.com the teen is still "really struggling" with vision difficulties, paralysis on her left side while being heavily sedated.

Arseneault isn't necessarily improving, her lawyer says, but was moved to a quieter room. She is also still on a feeding tube.

A sawed-off golf club impaled the teen's head, puncturing her skull and affecting her brain last week when the teen was running at the Ford Test Track. During gym class she cut across the field, tripped over wire attached to the golf club when the incident happened, Arseneault's lawyer says.

Her lawyer says it's unclear if the 14-year-old will make a full recovery or if the paralysis she's experiencing is permanent.

Both parents have been by their daughter's side in a London hospital and haven't been able to work. Once Arseneault is well enough to leave the hospital, her lawyer tells us she will likely head to a rehabilitation facility in Toronto.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with the family's expenses.

A pasta dinner fundraiser is also being held July 15 from 4pm-10pm at the Moose Lodge in Windsor.

The Arseneault family has hired Jennifer Bezaire of Greg Monforton and Partners to investigate the incident and potentially file a lawsuit against the city.

A city executive tells BlackburnNews.com they've suspended line painting until the incident can be investigated. They will also be changing the process in the future.
