Saying he will be deeply missed, Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara says members of town council will be "front and centre" at today's funeral service for Ward 2 councillor Mike Rohrer. Rohrer, who was 45, died suddenly of a suspected heart attack last Saturday morning. He leaves behind his wife and three children. The service starts at 11am this morning at the Good Shepherd Parish - St.Gregory at 13789 St.Gregory's Rd. in Tecumseh, where he had served as a Eucharist minister. McNamara says council members and administration with the town are still coming to terms with the loss. "He had a great sense of humour," he says. "He was well liked. There was nothing about Michael you couldn't like." He says council will likely pay tribute to their colleague at their next meeting on June 24. Asked if there could be a byelection to replace Rohrer in Ward 2, McNamara says it's just too early to say because the town is about to embark on a ward boundary review. Rohrer was first elected to Tecumseh town council in 2014. His first foray into politics was in 1995 in a failed bid to win the provincial seat in the ward of Windsor-Walkerville. His political involvement continued in a battle to keep St.Gregory Catholic Elementary School open. The school closed, but then reopened a year later for French Immersion.
