Local Paramedics Win International Competition

Four local paramedics have won a prestigious international competition simulating crisis situations, some completely in the dark and others improvising without their regular equipment.

Essex-Windsor EMS Team Ontario with Chris Kirwan, Lance Hulver, Nick Montaleone and Slawomir Pulcer won gold, beating out last year's champs from British Columbia.

The team spent months training for the Rallye Rejviz competition in the Czech Republic this past weekend.

Each scenario had between one and twenty patients and simulated traumas, fatalities, overdoses and other real-life settings. It put their training, skill and intuition to the test.

“We are thrilled to have won gold and to have been participants in this amazing opportunity,” says team captain Kirwin. “This invaluable experience allowed us to compete internationally, learn from others in the field of Paramedicine and test our strengths."

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual challenge that sees competitors from over 20 countries.
