The board of the Erie St. Clair LHIN says they have done their part to ensure the new proposed hospital system will meet the needs of the population they represent.
Several Windsor residents and representatives from the Citizens Against the Mega-Hospital Planning Process used the LHIN board meeting Tuesday night to voice concerns over the location of the proposed single-site acute care hospital.
Board Chair Martin Girash says the LHIN's responsibilities include programs and services not capital projects.
"There was considerable public engagement. I don't think anyone has raised any objections to the programs and services that have been articulated," says Girash.
While those present at the meeting said they are not against the new hospital and proposed programs overall, they are concerned people in downtown and west Windsor will not be able to access those services because of the proposed location on County Rd. 42.
"The community has not been given adequate opportunity by their LHIN, in their own city to express their ideas and concerns about this massive project before it was given approval," says resident Lori Hill.
The $2-billion proposed hospital system includes an acute hospital on County Rd. 42 as well has an urgent care centre on the former Grace Hospital site and a the redevelopment of the Ouellette Campus. Girash says he is not concerned over accessibility when looking at the new system overall.
