Kingsville Turns Down Essex Meeting

Kingsville's council is turning down a meeting request from the Town of Essex to discuss the future of the closing Harrow High School and planned build of a new K-12 school.

Kingsville Mayor Nelson Santos says instead his town is sending a letter of support to the province looking to have the Harrow High property turned over to Essex at nominal cost.

"We want to be supportive of our neighbours. We want to try to give them the hand that they need in getting access to a property they feel is beneficial to their community," says Santos.

However, Santos suggests it may not be the best time for a meeting from his municipality's point of view.

"I can't speak to land swaps including multiple properties outside of having the actual rules of engagement from the school board," says Santos.

Essex council is worried the new K-12 school in Kingsville may bleed enrolment from its public school and lead to another school closure.

There's a public meeting focusing on the future of the Harrow High School site at the Harrow Portuguese Club set for 6pm on Wednesday.
