A Leamington woman and Windsor man are receiving fines for unlawfully trapping wild hawks and keeping them in captivity.
Lauren Meadows is a licensed falconer who was allowed to capture a single red-tailed hawk from the wild.
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry officers say in October, 2015 she trapped one and held it in captivity. She also did not apply a leg band to the bird as required.
In December, after the first bird died, Steven Dickson trapped a second hawk and gave it to Meadows.
Officers later seized the hawk and safely returned it into the wild.
Dickson plead guilty and was fined $1,000 for unlawfully trapping specially protected wildlife for the purpose of keeping it in captivity.
Meadows also plead guilty and was fined a total of $1,000 for unlawfully possessing illegally captured wildlife and failing to comply with conditions.
