The 41st edition of Windsor's celebration of cultural diversity's adding a new village to its lineup, the Bavarian Village.
For two weekends, June 17-19 and 24-26, 13 cultural clubs across the city will open their doors as part of Carousel of Nations. Cultures showcased include Chinese, Greek, Italian, Caribbean and Scottish. The Bavarian Village is on Drouillard Rd. between Franklin and Metcalfe St.
The Carousel by the River Fusion of Culture Festival is June 11 and 12 at the Riverfront Festival Plaza. Many smaller cultural clubs will be joined by musical acts, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jody Rafoul, Karl Wolf and Farahri.
Executive Director of the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, Kathleen Thomas says overall attendance hit 300,000 last year.
"That's going over three weekends, and that's individuals visiting more than one village," she says. "When the weather is good, it's amazing. When the weather is bad, it does affect all the carousels."
The festival started in 1974 with the Arts Committee of Windsor and a $3,500 grant from the Ministry of Culture and Recreation.
