Windsor's St. Andrews Presbyterian Closing Its Doors

After 156 years in the heart of Windsor, St.Andrew's Presbyterian Church is closing its doors at the end of August.

A release posted on the church's website says the congregation has "wrestled with the serious financial realities and by secret ballot" voted to start a new creative ministry in downtown Windsor. The church will sell its 120-year-old building at the corner of Victoria Ave. and Park St. W.

The congregation voted back in February, and the Presbytery of Essex-Kent approved the proposal Tuesday.

All current operations and worship will end August 31; the same day current staff will be laid off.

Rev. Thomas Kay of Knox Presbyterian Church in Leamington has been named the Interim Moderator at St. Andrews.

Kay told BlackburnNews.com he didn't want to comment on the closure until he meets with the congregation. He says they're in the process of setting dates for that meeting now.
