A delegation of 50 residents has convinced Lakeshore town councillors to take sidewalks out of the contract to fix Elmgrove Dr. and East Pike Creek Rd.
The residents brought with them a petition signed by everyone on those streets, with the exception of those living in seven homes.
“One of their concerns was the loss of their front yard,” says Mayor Tom Bain. “Another one was the loss of trees.”
Bain says that’s no problem. Road and curb repairs will go ahead without sidewalks this summer, saving $125,000 that can be invested in sidewalks elsewhere.
Residents in Stoney Point have fought to have sidewalks installed in their neighbourhood. That project will cost about $122,000.
