Company Hired To Build New LDSS

Rosati Construction Inc. will build the new Leamington District Secondary School after public board trustees approved the company's $24.580-million bid for the project.

Leamington area trustee Dave Taves calls it exciting news for the town where the "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude persists.

"I hear that often," says Taves. "I was confident it was going to happen. There were a lot of hoops that we had to jump through and it looks like we're getting there."

The bid was just $30,000 less than the next closest bid from Oscar Construction Company Ltd.

Trustees cheered as they voted to approve Rosati as the company to build the new school and Taves understands why.

"It's been a long process," says Taves. "It was 2007 when they [the ministry] announced the first money and that was only for an 85% rebuild of 50% of the old school. We've moved from that to a beautiful new state of the art building and we're really excited about that."

Taves says staff have been making the best out of a less than stellar situation.

"Our staff has managed to provide fantastic education in a not so fantastic building and now we'll finally have a building that reflects what goes on inside," says Taves.

Students are set to move in at the beginning of the school year in September 2017.
