Workers at the Windsor Public Library have ratified a new four-year collective agreement.
Officials with CUPE Local 2067, the union representing 62 frontline workers at the library, say it was a long and stressful bargaining process.
"Now that bargaining is behind us, our members can focus on what we do best – serving our community with their library needs,” says CUPE 2067 spokesperson Amanda Meloche in a media release.
The tentative deal was reached between the union and the library, with the help of a provincial mediator, just ahead of a strike deadline on Thursday. The workers voted to accept and ratify the contact on Saturday.
“This is the first time in our bargaining history that we have faced a legal lockout or strike deadline,” says Meloche. “Obviously, there are workplace issues that need to be addressed and we are hopeful that management will focus on improving the workplace and the library environment.”
The new contract includes wage increases and language improvements.
