The US Coast Guard is approving the Detroit International Bridge Company's plans to build a twin span.
In a news release, the Coast Guard says a permit approving the location and plans of the proposed bridge was sent to the DIBC today. The Coast Guard is satisfied an expanded Ambassador Bridge won't have a significant impact on the environment or navigational clearances.
Construction to twin the bridge won't happen unless the DIBC gets the necessary approvals from the Canadian government.
