Lakeshore To Crack Down On Littering

Lakeshore's mayor is happy so many people enjoy the public parks in town, but he wishes they would clean up their litter.

"We're providing nice barbecue facilities, the picnic tables," says Tom Bain. "People are just up and leaving it without any thoughts of cleaning up after themselves."

Bain says there's been a lot of complaints about littering and town officials are at work beefing up bylaw enforcement in time for picnic weather.

Enforcement will be stepped up, but Bain doesn't think the town will need to hire any more enforcement officers.

"We'll be able to use our enforcement officers, and if it warrants, we'll be able to use our OPP," he says.

The town has spent $3-million on marina and park upgrades at Lakeview Park.

Bain says signs will go up, and the town will make sure there are enough garbage receptacles available for the public to use.
