It happened at around 9:30am on Maidstone Ave. W and Talbot St.
The OPP had the area closed off while firefighters battled the blaze, but it has since been reopened to traffic.
The fire caused $50,000 in damage and has been ruled unintentional.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
