The Special Olympics flag is being raised in Navy Yard Park in Amherstburg this morning before heading on a journey throughout the province.
The Knights of Columbus is also asking members of the community to come out and sign the flag to show their support for the games. The flag raising is at 11am on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
Reg Campell with the Knights says this is one of six flags that will travel around the province before heading to Durham, Ontario for the provincial games in June.
"It's not a fundraiser, it's just to bring awareness about Special Olympics. So that people are more aware of the importance and how many athletes we do have in the area," says Campbell.
There are approximately 150 special olympics athletes in Windsor-Essex.
