Visitation For Howard Pawley Friday

The community will have a chance to pay final respects to former Manitoba premier and University of Windsor professor Howard Pawley Friday.

The visitations are at Families First Funeral Home at 3260 Dougall Ave. in Windsor 3pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm.

The University of Windsor is also hosting a celebration of life Saturday morning at the CAW Student Centre. The service will be in the Ambassador Auditorium at 11:30am. Another celebration will be in Winnipeg at a later date.

The government of Manitoba has set up an online book of condolence.

Pawley served as Manitoba's premier from 1981 to 1988 and arrived at the University of Windsor in 1991. In 2000, he was awarded the Order of Manitoba and was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2001. He passed away in a Windsor hospital December 30 at the age of 81.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
