It may not be something you're thinking about with the recent warm weather, but the City of Windsor needs volunteers to help shovel snow once the real winter weather hits.
Executive Director of Human Resources Vincenza Mihalo says 66 people have signed up to volunteer, but 300 people have come forward requesting help.
She says it's important to get as many people as possible now because it takes a while to process volunteers.
"They come here to human resources and let us know that they're interested, and we ask them to police clearance," says Mihalo. "We give them a safety orientation."
Volunteers must also be at least 16 years old.
The requests for help typically come from elderly or disabled residents who can't shovel their driveways and walkways.
Not only is snow build-up potentially hazardous for those who have mobility challenges, but it also makes it difficult for police, firefighters, mail carriers and meter readers to do their jobs.
