The City of Windsor is looking to change its relationship with the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation.
Based on a consultants report, council has directed administration to enter into a service management relationship with the corporation.
"We're going to be able to spell out what we expect from WEEDC. We're going to spell out what services we want to buy from WEEDC and at the end of the day all of those things will be papered and there will be no surprises," says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
The city will also hire two-and-half full-time employees to act as the coordinators between the organization and WEEDC. These employees will also conduct any internal economic development functions.
Dilkens says operations at the development corporation will be status quo in 2016 until a new agreement is in place.
"The goal would be to get a multi-year agreement with WEEDC so it provides them some stability so they can do some more long term planning and at the end of the day it's about making things better. This isn't about breaking anything apart it's about finding ways to do things better," says Dilkens.
