After years of falling enrollment, the Greater Essex County District School Board is getting proactive about student retention and recruitment.
Trustee Dave Taves's motion to create a committee to research why the board is losing students, and to whom, passed at a board of trustees.
"We'll look at market share. We'll look at competition," he says. "Are there kids that we should be getting? Are they leaving because of programming or other issues, and how do we fix that?"
The committee of trustees, administration and other school staff will be struck next month.
Declining enrolment is an issue at boards across Ontario and has resulted in school closures across the region.
